Community Setting

The Hideout is a private gated residential community in Lake and Salem Townships, Wayne County, in the Lake Ariel area of northeastern Pennsylvania. The community consists of approximately 3,200 single-family homes across 6.7 square miles, with over 40 miles of paved roads and a modern central water and sewer system operated by the Roamingwood Water and Sewer Authority. Nearly 250 acres within the development have been permanently set aside as preserved natural woodland.

The Hideout is part of the Wallenpaupack Watershed and contains six named bodies of water: Roamingwood Lake at 198 acres is the centerpiece and the only lake in the community that permits powerboating; Deerfield Lake (25 acres) and Brooks Lake (9 acres) allow non-motorized and electric boats, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing; and three smaller water features — Windemere Lake, Hidden Lake, and Big Springs Pond — add to the community's landscape. Water from the community eventually flows to Lake Wallenpaupack via Ariel Creek. The community is governed by the Association of Property Owners of the Hideout (APOH) and operates as a genuinely four-season community with a recreational program that runs year-round.
