PIKE COUNTY · PALMYRA TOWNSHIP · TAFTON
Tanglwood Lakes is a planned residential community of more than 900 wooded acres in Palmyra Township, Pike County, on the southeast side of Lake Wallenpaupack near Tafton. Its borders sit against tens of thousands of acres of National Park Service land and Pennsylvania state parks and game lands, giving the community a preserved, private feel that is unusual even among Pocono lake communities, with home lots that generally run from half an acre to a full acre. The recreation here is built around two very different bodies of water. On Lake Wallenpaupack, one of Pennsylvania's largest lakes, the association maintains a lakefront beach and marina with a guarded sandy swimming beach, a bathhouse, a picnic gazebo, and a 106-slip marina with a boat launch. Within the community, the private Lake Tanglwood (about 35 acres) is reserved for catch-and-release fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and other non-motorized boating. The community also runs through the Paupack Hills Golf and Country Club, an 18-hole course designed by George and Tom Fazio, and rounds out its amenities with a clubhouse that includes a health club, an indoor pool, racquetball, and tennis, plus a nature trail and family sports areas.
